Events, New Works, and Inspiration

New Works. Here are a few of the pieces which I am currently working on at the studio. I continue to explore the use of a limited palette in the three paintings using a grisaille underpainting to build the forms before adding color glazes. Check back here to follow the progress of a painting. See more works in progress here.

Inspiration. Some artists who have influenced my work are shown here but certainly there are more who have driven my artistic passion. The Ashcan School in the late 19th century and early 20s inspires my work in realism that tells a story of labor. One member of this uniquely original American art movement was George Bellows who painted the landmark construction of Pennsylvania Station, New York dock workers, and portraits of early Irish immigrants such as Paddy Flanagan from which I did a small master copy. Others in this group included Edward Hopper and John Sloan.
