NYC Design Icon: Milton Glaser

One of NYC’s most recognizable brands is the ‘I Love NY’ design created by Milton Glaser. The concept — as its been reported — was penciled in the back of a cab. The simplicity of the design speaks volumes to his genius as a designer and marketing savvy. Easily reproduced in a number of commercial applications the brand was quickly adopted and adapted in a number of ways. Glaser’s love of NYC wasn’t just limited to graphics. He went on to create PushPin Studios which became the go-to studio for creative talent in NYC. His design legacy continues to be recognized throughout the world, from his Brooklyn Brewery logo to setting the design standard for publications like his NY Magazine. As a long-time admirer of Glaser’s work, I was lucky to have been in The City during PushPin’s glory days as a young artist looking to soak up some that Gotham chemistry.
