Invisible Labor

Looking to rebuild a transmission? Or, need a flywheel restored? Find almost every auto and truck part here around Song Wat, Bangkok's oldest neighborhood and now a part of town that's a must see. Crumbling shops and warehouses are now being repurposed as boutique hotels and chic eateries. Cocktail joints and car part dealers share the same Soi as the area grows in popularity with visitors. Meanwhile, mechanics and laborers work in near obscurity repairing auto parts amongst heaps of engine and tranny parts fixing them with hand tools on the ground smeared in gooey toxic oil. High risk, low pay. Mechanics, like the person pictured here, remain unknown but without whose labor and skills would be surely be missed.
